- Make a plan or packing schedule.
Breaking your packing tasks into smaller steps will make it easier to accomplish. Make a schedule of how much you are able to do each day. For example, plan on packing two rooms each day. It will be best to start packing up the least used rooms first.
- Prepare each room for packing.
After you have purchased moving boxes, put three or four in each room of the house. Start filling boxes with items you seldom use and will not need prior to the move. For example, pack up the Holiday decorations or clothing from the opposite season that is already packed away.
- Clear the clutter.
It is a good idea to take inventory of what you want to move and what you do not need anymore. Place a trash bag in each room and start throwing away items that you know are not worth anything. Make a donation pile for items that are too good to throw away but you do not want anymore.
- Ask for and accept help.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Most times, many people are willing to help. Just ask, and be open to receiving what others are willing to provide. For example, if you have young kids, it might be helpful to have them out of the house for a weekend so you can focus on only the task at hand.
Preparing for a move, you are bound to be living in chaos for a while, with boxes everywhere and things feeling out of control. If you follow our tips, you’ll be packing without getting overwhelmed and be on your way to an easier move. Read more tips on how to efficiently pack up your home here.
